February 24, 1939 ~ May 20, 2019 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Tribute

Raymond A. Cummings, age 80 of Stratford, beloved husband of Carol A. Phillips Cummings, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019.  Born in Norwalk, he was the son of the late Alexander and Helen Szendrey Cummings.  Ray was a graduate of Tufts University, and made his career as an electrical engineer.  Always ready to try something new, Ray had many hobbies and interests such as hiking, skiing, and photography.  In his earlier days, Ray could often be found taking apart and reassembling the engine on a favorite car or Jeep.  He was an accomplished pianist, and enjoyed classical pieces by favorite composers Chopin and Debussy.  An avid sailor, Ray enjoyed racing and sailing with Shore & Country Club and the Power Squadron, and leisure sails with his family.  Ray was known for his quick wit, and his amusing antics kept family and friends laughing.  He also had a gentle side, as his wife Carol can attest.  They were blessed to celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary on February 24th of this year.  Ray loved and cared deeply for his family; they meant the world to him.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Carol include his son, Daniel Cummings, daughter, Laurel Laster (Lee), stepchildren, Sandra Macchiarulo (Anthony), Michael Wakelee (Brenda), and Kevin Wakelee.  Other survivors include sister, June Cummings, ten grandchildren, Cristin Conoscenti (Stephen), Andrew Macchiarulo, Michael Wakelee Jr, Kaitlyn Wakelee, Lily Laster, Rachel Laster, Katie Laster, Samantha Wakelee, Emma Wakelee, Xavier Cummings and great granddaughter Olivia Conoscenti. He was predeceased by his son, Raymond A. Cummings, Jr.
