Walter Finick

August 24, 1930 ~ May 12, 2019 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Tribute

Walter Finick, age 88, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Pat (Roscoe) Finick, passed away peacefully in his home on May 12, 2019. He was the son of the late Sadie and Michael Finick. Walter was born in Bridgeport on August 24, 1930 and was a life long area resident. He was a graduate of Harding High School and the University of Pennsylvania, the Wharton School. He ended his career as the Comptroller of Exmet Corporation.

Walter was a gentle man who always had a smile on his face and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He supported his sons in their athletic and scouting activities. He was active in his church as well as Pat’s. They both received the St. Augustine Medal from Bishop Lori at St. Augustine's Cathedral for their service to Notre Dame of Easton Church. Walter served as President of the Easton Exchange Club. He was involved in their Halloween Haunted House where he and his fellow Exchangites enjoyed the fun more than the Halloweeners. He also was involved as accountant for the Anthony Colonnese Golf Tournament Fundraiser which is still ongoing. Walter enjoyed gardening. Being a city boy meant wasting water while trying to drown a pesky groundhog and trapping skunks and squirrels in the haveaheart trap instead of his nemesis. Every Fall he surrounded his peach trees with mesh to catch the falling fruit. He supplied many friends with his crop and for a few years made peach brandy. That he doled out more sparingly.

Walter and Pat met in a ski club and they enjoyed skiing in Vermont and out West with their sons and friends for many years. They toured the world and after Walter became homebound, toured the rooms of their home enjoying the picture and and sharing memories of their travels.

At age 86, Walter became a proud Grandfather. We are blessed that he was able to enjoy holding his Granddaughter, Macallan, during the Christmas holidays and was able to interact with her via Face time almost every day.

Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of  53 years, include his sons  Michael, of Stratford, CT and Matthew and his wife, Jacquelyn Kung,  of Dallas, Texas and his cherished granddaughter, Macallan. He is also survived by his brother in law, Michael Roscoe of Richmond, VA. His sisters Miriam Von Drasek and Dorothy Rychley predeceased him.

Visiting hours will take place at the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Four Gorham Place. Trumbull, CT on May 31, 2019 between 3:00 and 6:00p.m.  A prayer service led by Roman Catholic Deacon Paul Sabo, Pat’s cousin, will take place at 5:00p.m. Paul was a vital support during Walter’s long final journey.  Graveside services  will be held on  June 1, 2019 MEETING DIRECTLY at St. John’s Cemetery, Stratford, CT  (2610 Nichols Ave, - just past Hawley Lane Mall) at  11:00a.m.

For his last few years, Constellation Hospice  provided exceptional support, especially nurses Susan and Coree, chaplain Heather, Social Worker, Lorraine, and special aides Miguel and Josh along with many  other wonderful people.  Without everyone’s dedicated support, Pat would not have had Walter in her life as long as she did.
